Scrapping GCSE drama from the curriculum would be madness

About Me

I graduated in July 2012 from a three year professional Musical Theatre course at LCPA with platinum honours in my Trinity National Diploma. I am represented by Stirling Management and have been working and teaching within the Arts industry ever since.

I have always possessed a desire to teach and to be able to pass on the skills and knowledge I acquire to others and find that I am able to address that now, by being presented with an opportunity to extend my existing diploma into an honours degree whilst still being able to continue with my professional employment.

I currently hold teaching positions at two theatre schools and have been choreographing shows and leading drama workshops with children aged 4-18 for the past two years which has done nothing but fuel my desire to teach further and work with young people as a future career.

Since graduating, I have worked as a scare actor in a live-action themed horror maze, as a presenter and show performer at the Alton Towers resort. The jobs that I find most enjoyment in are the theatre in education tours, of which I have completed three and am currently working with a team touring Dudley and the West Midlands performing a show aimed at year 8 and 9 exploring substance abuse.

Upon completion of this course, I would ultimately love to be offered a post as a drama teacher in a secondary school after having pursued either a PGCE or School Direct Training Programme.

Performance, and in particular drama, has played the lead role in my life to date and I hope to preserve this key position with a career in education.
